Facilitating the Darumbal People RNTBC’s AGM

Case Study

Recently, I had the opportunity to work with the Darumbal People RNTBC, serving as the Independent Chair for their Annual General Meeting in Rockhampton, QLD. As the Traditional Owners of the Rockhampton area, the Darumbal People are a well-managed and financially strong organisation with engaged members, exciting opportunities, and a clear vision for the future. The AGM provided an opportunity to discuss key governance matters, cultural and language initiatives, and the organisation’s achievements, including Defence and Renewable ILUAs.

My role was to ensure the meeting ran smoothly by facilitating productive discussions and maintaining an inclusive and respectful environment. This involved guiding conversations to support effective decision-making while upholding the Darumbal People’s values and aspirations. The meeting also reinforced the strong relationship I have built with the Board and CEO through earlier projects we collaborated on this year.

The facilitation was well-received, with participants noting the positive and engaging atmosphere that allowed for clear communication and meaningful outcomes. This work helps keep me connected to issues on the ground, to hear directly from Traditional Owners about the matters that are most important to them, and to be involved in supporting and strengthening governance.
